The Joinery

Furniture with an eye to the past

The Joinery -

Since 1982, when Marc Gaudin started out in a garage in Portland, OR, The Joinery has been consumed with crafting fine furniture for the home and office. Almost 20 years later, the business is a tight-knit group of 30+ people. In building furniture, they combine old-world techniques with modern machinery. Solid hardwood construction, hand-rubbed oil finishes, and joinery techniques, such as the mortise and tenon, dovetail, and rabbet, are executed with perfection in mind.

The Joinery -

"This multifaceted team designs, builds and delivers some of the most unbelievably awesome furniture I have seen." says Marc. Each heirloom is built to order and comes complete with the craftsperson's signature. When visiting the showroom, customers can also view the 10,000-square-foot shop and watch the craftspeople at work.

A business with an eye on the future

Marc's goals have been the same for many years: To build high quality, functional art at a reasonable price; to value and empower the employees; and to give something back to the community. In this light, The Joinery supports many local charitable organizations and uses FSC-certified CollinsWood for the majority of their work.

The Joinery -

The Joinery decided to feature FSC-certified CollinsWood in their furniture because the values embodied in the wood-maintaining the forest's total ecological integrity, minimizing the impact of harvesting on biological diversity, respecting the rights of forest dependent communities, and conserving the forest's economic values-resonated with their own management philosophy. They think using FSC-certified CollinsWood is a way of ensuring that forests will be here for generations to come. In addition to their use of CollinsWood, they make every effort to minimize their impact on the environment: They have stopped using mahogany because of the dangers presented by improper harvesting, and recycling and reusing materials is vigorously encouraged in all aspects of day-to-day operations.

The Collins Company salutes The Joinery not only for building heirloom-quality furniture for future generations, but also for operating in a manner that places them in the vanguard of environmentally-friendly businesses.
