LEED Summary
When researching and specifying products for use in a project striving to qualify for LEED certification, it is important to realize specific nuances. First, LEED does not “certify” any product other than the final building – there are no LEED certified products in the marketplace. Second, no specific product can automatically give your project LEED points.
On the positive side, however, when using FreeForm and working toward a LEED certified project: The use of FreeForm CAN CONTRIBUTE TOWARD or COMPLY WITH LEED credit requirements.
FreeForm can contribute or comply with multiple credits. These include:
- Materials and Resources (MR) Credit 4: Recycled Content
- Materials and Resources (MR) Credit 7: Certified Wood
- Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ) Credit 4.4: Low Emitting Materials – Composite Wood
- And depending on the project location, it MAY contribute to MR Credit 5: Regional materials
| Credit | Credit Type | Definition | Points Available |
| MR 4 | Contribution | Recycled Content. This credit is calculated by using the recycled content dollars as a percentage of materials cost. FreeForm contributes 50% of the product cost to this credit. | 1-2 points |
| MR 4.1 | Contribution | Use 10% recycled content | 1 point |
| MR 4.2 | Contribution | Use 20% recycled content | 1 additional point |
| MR 4 | Innovation | Use over 30% recycled content | 1 innovation point |
| MR 7 | Contribution | Certified wood. Use a minimum of 50% of wood-based materials and products, which are certified in accordance with the Forest Stewardship Council’s principles and criteria. This credit is calculated by using the FSC certified material dollars as a percentage of materials cost. Furniture can contribute to this credit. FreeForm contributes 100% of the product cost to this credit. | 1 point |
| MR 7 | Innovation | Use over 95% FSC Certified | 1 innovation point |
| EQ 4.4 | Compliance | Ensure Composite wood and agrifiber products used on the interior of the building shall contain no added urea-formaldehyde resins. FreeForm complies with this credit. All products used must comply to earn this credit. | 1 point |
| MR 5 | Contribution | All products/materials that are manufactured within 500 miles (as the crow flies) need to be evaluated. The materials must be extracted, processed and manufactured regionally. This credit is calculated using materials cost. | 1-2 points |
| MR 5.1 | Contribution | Use 10% Regional materials | 1 point |
| MR 5.2 | Contribution | Use 20% Regional materials | 1 additional point |
| MR 5 | Innovation | Use over 30% Regional materials | 1 innovation point |
| MR 5 | FreeForm can contribute to this credit in these areas.
